Counselling for Children and Young People
I am a BACP accredited counsellor who specialises in working with children, young people, and their families. I qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in counselling children in schools in 2013 and have since worked in a many primary and secondary schools. I completed a counselling MA in 2017 and alongside my counselling practice worked for Place2Be as a counselling trainer for 5 years. I have provided clinical supervision for counsellors working with children and young people for 3.5 years.
How will you work with my child or young person?
I aim to build a space which feels safe, reliable and empowering. I offer talking therapy alongside a range of creative options, such as sand tray, art and games. My role is to facilitate children and young people in their exploration of self and adjust my approach to suit their needs. At times they will take the lead and sometimes I will make suggestions. I support children to set their own goals for therapy and consider what they would like to work on. My experience is that in this environment children will find ways to start working through whatever is troubling them, developing self-awareness and acceptance.
Families play a vital role in counselling. I am available before and after sessions to discuss how things are going. This is a good time to raise any concerns or questions which you would like to talk through. Sessions cost £50 and last for 45-50mins. After an introduction meeting, I usually suggest an initial 6 sessions to enable an assessment of the situation and recommend a way forward.
Contact me to talk through your initial concerns. I can also send you an information sheet with further details and commonly asked questions.
